COLLABORATE TO ASSIST B-40 GROUP

Pekan,Pahang, 16 February, 2023 – DRB-HICOM University of Automotive Malaysia (DRB-HICOM U) and Pusat Zakat Pulau Pinang (ZPP MAINPP) today signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in an effort to offer funding for the B-40 group in obtaining a Malaysian Skills Certificate. Specifically, the memorandum signed between the two parties will offer financial assistance for the Level 2 Malaysian Skills Certificate for Light Vehicle Programme. The course will organised by DRB-HICOM U with funding provided by ZPP MAINPP.

The MoA was signed by Prof Dato’ Sr. Dr. Omar Osman, Vice Chancellor and CEO of DRB-HICOM U and Dato’ Amran Hazali, CEO of ZPP MAINPP in a simple ceremony at the university’s campus in Pekan. Also present at the signing were Dr Hafizul Othman, Senior Head, University Management Centre & Marketing of DRB-HICOM U and Mohamad Kairi Ghazalli, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of ZPP MAINPP.

This MoA is part of the on-going effort by the Pekan-based university to engage various state Islamic religious councils to provide funding for students in the B-40 group that are keen to improve their qualifications with technical and vocational education and training (TVET) courses. The programme aims to assist the less fortunate raise their technical skills with a view to enable them to raise their income levels.

Prof. Omar says the programme aims to ensure that no Malaysian is spared in securing better education merely because they cannot afford one.

“Mainstream education may be out of reach for some groups, but TVET education offers great potential for youths who cannot afford other options. This programme offers them a chance to build their lives with technical skills that are in demand in an automotive market such as Malaysia,” Prof Omar said.

In making the TVET field more accessible, DRB-HICOM U has also expanded its TVET programmes under Akademi Saga. The programmes cover automotive as well as business subjects, and is digital based. The move is in line with greater interest in TVET based programmes by the community, government and industry players.

To-date, DRB-HICOM U has engaged Islamic religious councils in Kelantan, Pahang as well as WP Kuala Lumpur.
